In
1972, Calvin Haynes began studying modern, jazz, folk, ballet, mime and
ethnic dance under Deanne Collins, premier dancer for Martha Graham and
National Dance Movement Specialist. Later, he enhanced his dance abilities
through George Faison, James Cunningham and Merc Cunningham in
New York
. Calvin was a premier dancer with Huntsville Contemporary Dance Theatre
and Barbara Sullivan’s Atlanta Dance Theatre from 1973 thru 1983.
In
1988, Calvin accepted the call to liturgical dance at Chapel Hill
Harvester (currently named Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Decatur,
Georgia).
During
a Wednesday service in 1992, Calvin answered the call to minister in dance
at New Birth when Bishop Eddie L. Long made a call for someone who was
staying in two cities and knew that God had called them to New Birth.
Afterwards he was assigned by Minister Byron Cage to minister solo in
dance at the first resurrection service for New Birth at the Georgia Dome.
In 2003, he was assigned by Sabrina McKenzie to lead the men’s dance
ministry at New Birth (Lamb of God Worshippers).
Calvin
also held the position of Chairman of the Board in 2005-2006 year term for
Dance Nia (Sabrina McKenzie, Founder and Director). In 2006, he was a
covenant partner in the vision planning of God to open the eyes of mankind
to worship through Dance Nia in the The New Revelations Ballet.
